Disappointed by the menial tasks of checking catalogs and ad copy, Farid secretly hopes that his book will eventually be published. His manuscript never leaves his side until one day it disappears and then reemerges, beautifully printed. Farid soon realizes that the expensive paper it?s printed on is the same that the company is using to manufacture fake twenty-euro bills, and that the person who printed the book is none other than his boss?s wife. #1,267 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Overall, this was a very nice read. The characters are well-thought out and you really want to see how their relationship develops and if their love blossoms. The author deals nicely with the social history of the era, introducing appropriate social conventions and assumptions and then playing on them and what is deemed "proper" throughout the book. The cons for me were that the book was a bit verbose in some areas, some of the foreshadowing was both heavy-handed and drawn out, and the book contained some stilted/unnatural conversations and inner dialogues of the characters (I understand they were having deliberately awkward relations at points within the book, but some of the language just seemed unrealistic/unnatural). Also, the title is a bit misleading; while she is certainly a reluctant duchess, I fear "firey" is a much too potent word to describe the love they share - more like "respectful and deep". Overall, a very good story with well-defined characters, good plot development with a fair amount of twists/turns/bumps in the road - I enjoyed it and would read more from Fanny Finch.

I enjoyed reading this story. It's about a most unlikely marriage between a nobleman and a commoner. A marriage of convenience for both, as much as Thea was against it. Joseph's mother made a demand that he marry within a week after the season started. His fabric merchant was scraping by to support his wife and 5 children. They struck a deal; he would marry his oldest, Thea, thereby supporting her family and he would spite his mother by marrying "below his station." It does have a HEA with an extended epilogue occurring 1 yr after the marriage. Although I became weary of Thea's distrust again and again and skimmed a few pages of repetition, the book is very much worth reading if you're a fan of historical romances.I received an ARC of this book. This is my voluntary review. Thanks Fanny!

A Fiery Love for the Reluctant Duke is an interesting clean historical romance about finding love in an arranged marriage set up for all the wrong reasons. The story is entertaining, even though it is a little slow. I think it could have benefitted from the characters being less stilted and more physical beings. Their behavior towards each other was more what one would have expected from a couple courting than a married couple living in the same house. Keeping things platonic is one thing, but these two are nervous about holding hands.I’d recommend this book to fans of clean Regency romances.

Thea didn't want to marry. Her father was a merchant so it was unlikely that Thea and her two sisters would find suitable husbands. However, her father took his fabric samples to the Duke's new home so he could choose. Then, he invited the Duke to dine with his family. After that, he and the Duke decided it would be beneficial to both families if Thea and the Duke were to marry. Thea was unhappy with this and knew the ton would look down on her since her family was poor. Will this marriage between two people who didn't know each other and didn't want this marriage work? This is a lovely, sweet love story.

Quite an intriguing story about two people one hoping for a marriage of convenience and the other hoping to find love. Their journey through trials of being accepted was very trying to Thea who was really from a working class family. Being married to a duke wasn't easy for her, because she wasn't accepted by his class. The love of money being the root of all evil was a real changing point when she witnessed the changes it brought about in her family. It was quite silly the way they went about accusing each other for things that were unfounded.

Thea Caulfield is dismayed when she learns her father had made a deal with the Duke of Sandon for her hand in marriage. Now she is married to a man she doesn't love. The Duke of Sandon made a decision on impulse out of spite for his overbearing mother. Now he is married to a beautiful woman who doesn't love him. Can he show his wife how much he loves her? Can he get his wife to fall in love with him? Can Thea find love with her impulsive husband? Does she really want to love her husband? This is a clean and sweet romance.

As much as I always enjoy this authors historical romances, I was not fond of the beginning of this one. The Duke seemed too shallow and weak and Thea too petulant and unnecessarily critical. I'm glad I kept reading because the characters developed and the storyline was much more interesting after the first few chapters. It turned into a lovely romance and I especially liked the extended epilogue offered at the end of the book. I would like to see the epilogue lead into another book.

This is an unusual story as the bride really disliked her groom and pretty much set out to make his life as miserable as she was. However as time went on she has a change of heart and after all her complaining she begins to see the value of this man and how much she comes to love him. I almost gave up on them but am happy to say things worked out well in the end. A good tale with good and bad people and events which shaped their lives. You'll like I a lot!

#257,403 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

It was just a couple of weeks ago that I went back to visit some of the wisest friends I know, the 4500+ year old Bristlecone Pine trees in California. I had met them a few years earlier, they had comforted me after a death in my immediate family by giving me some perspective. A short while later, I quit my job to travel the world for a couple of years. On that go round, I also visited a grove of tall trees in Redwood National Park - which had some former world record holders. I thought I had seen it all. The oldest, tallest, and in 1997, I had visited General Sherman - the largest (In volume). All of these are noted in the book with glorious photos.Boy, was I wrong. I recently discovered another tree of distinction, also while in California. A moreton bay fig tree with a crown of 100+ feet, 75 feet tall. Magnificent. I've started to look at registers of trees, and then I found this book.I've begun to realize there are so many more trees of distinction, and not just the ones he mentions. The author has helped open up my eyes to seeing the world in another different way. His prose, descriptions, and inclusion of historical photos makes for an enjoyable read. I like to repeat - "The true voyage of discovery, is not in going to new places, but in seeing with new eyes." - Proust. The author has succeeded in having that effect on me.He finds glorious trees in Botswana, Madagascar, Morocco, South Africa / Japan, Sri Lanka, Turkey / France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden / Canada, USA, Mexico / Australia, and New Zealand.I've had the fortune of visiting 10 of these countries in my life, but other than what I noted earlier, didn't particularly make an effort to seek other trees out. I will now. My list of reasons to travel and re-visit some places is growing. Thank you Mr.Pakenham.I'm back in the Northwest US now - home of many trees, as I drive or bicycle I pay much closer attention to the friendly giants all around. I'm sure I'll lie down under one of them soon and have that daydream.

This was my 6th purchase of this book. I have one and have given the others as gifts. Remarkable Trees is a book well named. The beauty and longevity of these trees is inspiring. Despite all the environmental and human onslaught throughout the centuries, they survive. I appreciate that the author captured so many of these trees in this book. It's a beautiful gift for anyone who loves trees or anyone you wish to introduce to the world's diversity of of these life giving survivors.

If you are trying to give a gift to someone who you really like, this book would be ideal - It's that good.Briefly, this is a book of photographs of 60 trees scattered throughout the world that appeal to the author in some way. The photos are excellent and if you have ever tried to photograph a tree you will appreciate the thought and hard work that went into this book. The author includes photos of the biggest, the oldest, the holiest, and the oddest trees in the world. Ruminating about why he chose these particular trees is as fun as viewing the photos and text. Each photo is accompanied by well-written text that fleshes out the photos with historical, biological, or cultural information regarding each tree and its setting.I found myself lost in time and space as I read this book and looked at the trees - which is probably what the author intended and why he calls these trees "remarkable".The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because I read it after I had read Pakenham's first book, "Meetings With Remarkable Trees", which is even richer and better. I'm no tree-hugger but after reading these books I could be tempted.

When I bought Pakenham's precursor to this book ("Meetings With Remarkable Trees"), I was astonished then. Now I've run out of superlatives, hence the plus sign suffixing the title of my review. As enjoyable as his poetic writing style is, that's just a bonus. The highly detailed photos in this book are, well, astonishing+. He uses a heavy, large-format camera, lugging it all around the world to photograph some of the most amazing trees on the planet. And as fine as the print quality was in "Meeting With Remarkable Trees", the print quality of this book surpasses the former. I am constantly amazed at the print quality of the best books being printed today, and this is right up there at the top of the heap. You'll swear you're looking at fine, lithographic prints. I am a fanatic tree lover to begin with, and this book is just glorious, and satisfies my wildest dreams for such a book. It gives me a sense of ecstasy over being alive.

A great followup to Meetings with Remarkable Trees, which I have had since it first came out years ago. Thomas Pakenham deserves a Nobel prize for his work on trees! Of course, you'll find your favorite tree that you'd want to be in here but it isn't. Nonetheless, this is a classic.

bought this book for me......beautiful book, has provided me with many pleasant hours...

This is not a book only for tree enthusiasts, it is for everyone and I hope that everyone, everywhere will buy this book and be enriched by it. It is a blend of richly beautiful photogrophy with insightful and haunting narrative. The trees themselves come alive, sometimes as dieties. The stories behind these particular trees left me with a sense of affection for these remarkable beings.I remember reading a review and wondering what the fuss was all about. But there is much to fuss about. I know we are not to comment on other reviewers, but I must break the rules here. The reviews of this book are by far the most eloquent and beautiful I have come across. Usually there is some crank in the bunch who has awful things to say about a really good book. Not so here. It is as thought the sublime spiritual nature of the subject and the presentation brought out the best in everyone.

Oh so lovely, God has given us a treasure in our gracious, amazing trees and the author has paid his homage through the lens and pen!!
