From School Library Journal
Gr 2–4—In 1917, two English cousins named Elsie and Francis claimed to have seen fairies in the woods near their home. When their parents refused to believe them, they took their father's brand-new camera to photograph the fae. For the next several decades, this "proof" sparked intrigue and debate about whether fairies were real, or if the girls had pulled off an ingenious deception. Nobleman's text is a rich overview of this bizarre historical controversy; he deftly navigates topics like childhood in the early 20th century, the media and the influence of celebrity culture, and the history of photography, without ever weighing down the central narrative. Wheeler's illustrations are colorful and evocative and effectively propel the action of the story forward through the decades it covers. They also combine seamlessly with the actual photographs, which are included in the text, enabling readers to examine the images for themselves. VERDICT A strong nonfiction choice that manages to present the actual events and illustrate more broadly the 20th century.—Maryanne Olson, Queens Borough Public Library, NY

It was a pleasure to read this story to my grandnieces and nephews on a story that has been going around. To let them know the facts. It was better than my telling it and the pictures were great and brought into life. It was a very good explanation of a 100 year old story.
Interesting story and a quick read. Like the historical aspects of the story. Started a discussion on what is fact and what is fiction, what can you believe and what may be true for you may not be true for someone else.
Fun for all ages.
Nobleman brings readers a true story from the the early 1900s of media's powerful influence. Even before Facebook, Twitter, and non-stop reporting via television and radio, books and newspapers had the ability to sway public opinion and change the minds of adults and children who are certain that they know the right answer. In 1917, two girls discovered that fairies and gnomes lived by a stream near their home and took pictures that proved to a nation that fairies are real!! The telling of the tale includes watercolor illustrations as well as copies of the photographs from 1917. Cover reproductions of the The Strand, the magazine that revealed the amazing discovery, are also a part of this picture book that will be of interest to those who love fairies or are intrigued by the might of pen and picture.
This is a 🎄 Gift , I'm sure my granddaughter will â¤ï¸ It , she â¤ï¸'S fairies !!
A little more simplistic than I thought it would be but still entertaining
