Useful Book.Before the year 2000, there were no international data on education to know how education systems are performing like what is available now in the 21st century: PISA test, TIMSS, and PIRLS. The main secret of the Finland education system is that in the 20th century the Finns had undertook some education policies for the purpose of accomplishing a high quality of learning and widespread equity in learning opportunities and outcomes at the same time. Finnish started their reform policies by developing the early childhood education.In fact, Finland undertook different approaches to reform the education system widespread the country, Finnish students do not take standardized tests or data in order to compare teachers or schools to each other; however, it created an inspiring and trustful environment in which teachers work. All teachers are required to have higher academic degrees that guarantee both high-level pedagogical skills and subject knowledge in order to do their jobs well. Moreover, teachers in Finland work as autonomous professionals and play a key role in curriculum planning and assessing student learning attracts some of the most able and talented young Finns into teaching careers year after year. In actuality, teachers, students and parents are all involved in assessing schools, and how well it performs.Educational leadership is totally different in Finland as principals, district education leaders and superintendents are, without exceptions, former teachers. As always, Pasi Sahlberg calls into question the best ways to educate youth. This book provides some interesting strategies to think about school structures and systems, and the part about the importance of teacher collaboration and an investment in equity resonates with everything else I am reading. At times, though, I was not sure where the idea in one chapter ended and the next chapter began. That might have been part of his argument, though.

The information in a book was new for me, so I read the book with interest. But, probably, because of working for a long time in pedagogics, author lacks the ability to inspire interest for what he's telling. At some moments I felt that book became more and more repetitious. I wish it ended after the the first chapter, where the idea of the author is already clear.

Would recommend this book to state board of education members -- the success of this program flaunts the accepted goals of our education system -- with much better results.

A good addition to my teaching tools this year.

A must read for any educator/ education leader/ education policy maker. A great overview of the History of Finnish Education, implications for best practice in education reform/transformation.

If you are looking for a "course text book" to inspire discussion and thinking and further research this is a an awesome book (although the print quality is poor, or did I get a counterfeit print again?!). But if you are looking for a book for personal learning this is just an OK book. Probably you already know all of this, but this is just organized and well put together.

For students going through a multi year degrees. This can be one of your touchstone book you keep throughout your career. Practical advice and exercises for all without being too theoretical.For indies, it a great set of practical ideas to 'stress test' your design and to explore its edges for new opportunities in game play.

This is an amazing book! If you want to learn about the best game designers and if you want exercises to help you generate game ideas, buy this book. It's a game designing curriculum that is helping me create an educational video game for my graduate research project.

The top rating is well-deserved -- this book is both thorough and well-written. Fullerton provides in-depth discussion and a progressive approach to introducing the material. It begins with the absolute basics, discussing the basics of where game ideas come from, and ends with a treatise on the inner-workings of the game publishing industry.I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to learn more about game development, as a trade, and especially for anyone looking to do it as a profession.There were so many things to love about this book, but three things really stand out in my mind as being particularly awesome: 1. The "Designer Perspective" sidebars (insight into how some famous game designers got started and some behind-the-scenes knowledge about the industry) 2. The focus on iterative-design (prototype and test early and often) 3. The Exercises (real application exercises that hold your hand through the development of games, and of yourself as a career designer)There were basically only two things I *didn't* like about this book, and they are purely circumstantial.The first thing is that this book is college-textbook dense. Seriously. The page-count is just shy of 450 pages, and each page is divided into two columns, with a relatively small font-size. It was a beast to get through. There were many times when finishing the book felt like a daunting task, particularly towards the end.The second thing that I wished was different was that the book's focus changes almost completely to digital game development (video games). The first half of the book was about basic game development, and so it could apply to either tabletop games or digital games; but as the book progresses, it makes a clear shift towards digital game development.Realistically, this is not surprising -- the video game industry is gigantic, with revenues exceeding Box Office sales, and it keeps growing. The market for tabletop games is vastly smaller, domestically, and although it enjoys a much larger market share in Europe, particularly Germany, it is still comparatively diminuitive. So this particular nitpick is purely arbitrary, on my part -- I don't begrudge the authors for their decision regarding the content.

I liked the excerices throughout the book but I think that it isn't well organized.Some of the "interviews" are disruptions the flow of the book and some are just not very interesting.I think it's an OK read but only if the format is regular and not a PDF which makes it so much harder to get through.

Perricone (The Wrinkle Cure), a professor of dermatology at Yale Medical School, believes that relatively simple changes in eating can effect dramatic changes in physical appearance and well-being. He has created a month-long program broken up into daily menus as well as a more restrictive three-day regimen designed to produce immediate results. I have been following/reading about Dr. Perricone since I was 21. Now I am 39 and my skin (besides my forehead wrinkles!) looks great!

This is a go-to book for anyone seeking a life-style change to follow an anti-inflammatory diet plan and understand the science behind why certain foods are on the list and why others aren't. Stick to the list of foods to eat and you will make an amazing change in health and well-being. I gave this one as a gift. A must-read for anyone wanting to understand how foods affect your body. Practical and easy to understand. Mark the pages for the list of foods to eat and keep it handy for reminders until you have it memorized!

I bought this book for a friend, but I have been following this life style for about ten years. I am now a quadriplegic and still remain healthy and progressing constantly. My skin is in great condition, as well as my overall energy, stamina and well-being. I am 61 years old, but don't look it or feel it. I highly recommend this book and suggest you buy used. I saw an almost immediate dramatic improvement in my skin, memory and energy levels just based upon a few notes on supplements from the program. I put the book on my wish list and FINALLY got it a year later.The book and diet is based upon the premise that by stripping inflammatory 'toxins' from the diet and by beefing up the body with oils and substances that help it create healthy chemicals for the brain, skin and body, your skin and body undergo a 'makeover'. Although the whole makeover bit is appealing to many, in my opinion, it's simply your body 'getting healthy'.The book is fantastic. If you're into having a healthier lifestyle and you want to know the ins and outs of why you should do certain things, this book is for you.The ONLY down side is that the diet isn't as 'accessible' to those who aren't fully dedicated or able to throw themselves behind a diet like this. It takes more prep time than an ordinary meal in a busy household and there are a variety of ingredients.That said, it isn't a reflection on the book. The book is well written with instructions and complete information on every topic it covers - including recipes. Even gleaning what I could reasonably use from this book has made a ton of difference in my life. I have a disorder that benefits from stripping inflammatory substances from my body and this diet did the trick. I very highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a 'change your body, change your life' type book.

It works. My husband and I both lost our target weight. He lost faster than me without exercise. The important thing is to stick to the plan. We both felt better after our meals. We were not sluggish after meals and had more energy. There was less inflammation in the finger joints and much more restful at night. GREAT BOOK!!!!!!

I have used this book for years, also bought it for several other people. as i would never loan mine. I have arthritis and it helps with the inflamation. I took myself off celebrex a year ago. My sister broke her arm so i stayed with her five weeks (I had already sent her the book) so I put her on the diet and she loved it.I measured her angles when we started, 10 1/2" it went down to 8 1/2" before I left. She lost 20lbs and her arm healed a week sooner than it should have. I tell everyone about this book.

I am still reading this book, but impressed so far. This book is packed with interesting easily applied ideas for skin transformation. I noticed it was published thirteen years ago, I have to wonder what advances in skin and body health care have changed since then. Anyway, some of this information is new to me so I appreciate the education.

This is the first of Dr. Perricone's books I purchased. I liked it so well, I purchased the rest of them thinking there'd be updated recipes, & maybe some updated information. They are basically all the very same book, sometimes word for word, just different titles. I would recommend this book to anyone having complexion problems, or anyone just wanting to feel better. If you buy one of his books, there's really no need to purchase any of the others, unless you plan to share them with friends & family.

A big help...took the mystique out of the device. I am old and slow, and made a leap from a primitive 'flip phone' to the Galaxy S 5, and while some of the changes seemed huge at the outset, Dummies helped get me through those changes in a logical manner. Well done.

I'm still in the process of trying to get the most out of my phone so I'm still reading this book. I have found it very helpful I can go back and reread what I don't understand. The book is written for people like me that don't have a great knowledge about electronic devices but really want to learn. I would recommend this book to help learn a new skill, learning how to use a new phone!!

Seems odd -- Smart phones for dummies. I am not a techie, but I like the features of smart phones. Bill Hughes does a great job of explaining this beautiful phone for people like me. I am not a beginner nor an expert; I just want to get better use out of this amazing machine.

This book serves as a basic introduction to first-time S5 users...in most cases it simply tells what various features are rather than how to set them up and use them. There are a few areas where the author goes into more detail, for example phone security. In other areas details are lacking. So as the 3 stars rating ("It's OK") suggests, I am not wildly enthusiastic about it. I also bought 2 other books--Hughes "Help Me! Guide to the Galaxy S5" and Halbert's "Samsung Galaxy S5: The 100% unofficial User Guide". I'm hoping between the three of them I can learn how to take advantage of at least most of what the GS5 has to offer. Honestly, most of what I've learned has been through Youtube video tutorials...and they are free.

My last phone was a flip phone so using the Galaxy S5 was all new to us. We don't have kids to teach us so my husband and I bought this to learn more about the phone.It's rather simplistic.... written for the most basic user who really knows NOTHING about technology. I may not be experienced with smart phones in general but I am an advanced computer user in general and the first few chapters were common knowledge for me. The book has some good info in it but you can learn just as much about your phone from watching free videos on You Tube.

This Dummies book saved my sanity. My new phone (my first) came with absolutely no user manual and the download from Samsung was such tiny print that I hated using it. This book has enabled me to find and use features I possibly would not have ever used. Somehow manufacturers and instructional manual writers assume that we all have had such a device since the first one and have learned as we upgraded. To come into this market years down the line without much guidance at all is a guidebook to failure and frustration. This well written, humorous book is in a prominent place, near my phone.

Written very plainly and explains how to use this phone very well. Recommended to anyone who needs a simple explanation of how to use a very good phone.
