This map, which I ordered to simply familiarize myself with the general layout of Bermuda before I left, was an excellent addition to my trip. It gave me all of the points of interest upon which I did further research to create my itinerary. The front and back side are slightly different and offer a)great diagram of cities/parishes, beach/snorkeling points, ferries/bus routes and the other side, b)dive sites and detailed info of shipwrecks and tropical fish/coral you may encounter. I brought the waterproof/durable map with me everywhere I went and I'll be bring it with me on my next trip. By the way, at the major points of gathering, there are visitor centers with bus and ferry schedules and maps for free with detailed schedules and plenty of staff to answer your questions. I would encourage everyone to have a general idea how public transportation works and how to get to their destination because the bus drivers really do not have time (or seemingly, patience) to explain directions to tourists :) It's hit or miss but I wouldn't suggest relying on the drivers if you haven't don't any research of your own.

I had the opportunity to read the book "Learn to Code in Swift - The new language of iOS Apps" by Kevin J. McNeish, over year end holidays. I've been looking for a good book on Swift, as I spent last summer translating my own app from Objective-C to Swift. While I really didn't know what I was doing, I had done a literal translation as a means of trying to learn the syntax of the language. Since then, I have been trying to get a better understanding of some of the differences between Objective-C and Swift, so that I may be able to clean up my app a bit.I had met Kevin at MacWorld some years ago, and had picked up his first iBook on Obective-C. I found it to be a good beginner's book. With that as a background I was looking forward to reading this book.Let's begin with the structure of an individual chapter. Each chapter has a specific theme, and within that theme Kevin spends considerable time explaining the specifics and concepts behind that that theme. Unlike many books, he doesn't assume that you are an expert in computer theory or computer science. While he doesn't go too deep on the theory, he does explain enough of it to help solidify the concepts of the specific theme. Each theme is broken apart into specific concepts or, if appropriate, API calls. He provides simple to understand code examples so that the concepts stick with you. He also spends enough time explaining the Xcode environment, which is a great boon for someone just getting started learning iOS programming. I have yet to find a book that does this, so it was refreshing to learn a few tricks I had not yet discovered.Quick aside: Years ago when I first started programming professionally, I had to share a development environment with the production system on an IBM midrange computer called the System 38. The customer I was working forward got upset with me, as I used to treat it like a PC, i.e. Write some code, compile, look at the syntax errors, fix them, write some more code, rinse and repeat until the program was done. My boss came to me one day, after getting many complaints that I was impacting the customers business with all my compiles, and said - "Michael, you only get three compiles to get a program finished. One for syntax, one for debugging, and one for production use." I was floored... How would I ever do this, well the answer was, learn how the computer thinks. Desk check your code, and program flow - making sure to fully understand all the inputs, behaviors, and outputs. This advice changed the way I programmed. I feel that I need to understand, not only the big picture, but the details and how the operating system works.In Learn to Code in Swift, Kevin helped me get a much deeper understanding of the actual behavior and reasoning around many of the concepts I had tried to pick up by converting my code last summer.Continuing with the structure of the chapters, Kevin then provides a handy summary of all the points he just presented. I can imagine a companion book that just consists of those summaries. Perhaps this is how he structured his outline for the book. But I find myself going back to those pages to reinforce the lessons. He then provides an exercise to allow the reader to practice what they just learned. And finally, and I love this part, he provides a video online to walk you thru the steps making sure you got the exercise right. And as with most programming books, all the source code is available for downloading.Overall, I found this book to be an excellent starting point for people wanting to learn Swift within the context of iOS programming. Now that Apple has released Swift into Open Source, I am sure that the language will grow and mature quickly. Having a good understanding of the fundementals of the language is critical to take advantage of it overtime. Kevin's book certainly provides you with that foundation. Highly recommended.

As usual, Kevin McNeish has nailed it. I have yet to be disappointed in purchasing any of his books. MONEY WELL INVESTED IN YOURSELF. If you are having difficulties in grasping Swift, do not hesitate and purchase this book. You will not regret your purchase.thanks to my investment in Mr. McNeish books, I was able to build this advance iPhone/iPad App http://lumberjacksystem.comPrior to this App, I have had no iOS experience at all. In the very middle of the book the right-hand side pages are printed slightly crooked, and those pages are also not fully secured to the binding. Its 20-30 pages, but in a book like this every page is vitally important. The information is great, as are the online resources that accompany the book.

Update: This seems like a fantastic book so far.I'm just about at page 100, still plenty to go but have been making progress recently.The author does a great job explaining the mechanics of coding swift in xcode.He's also got videos at the end of each chapter which I've so far not needed but it's nice to know they are there in case I miss something in the text.I'm at the point where the author is doing such a good job that I'm curious why there aren't more reviews on the book here. It seems really really good.Probably also worth noting that the print version of the book has reasonable sized type that's easy to read.------------- original review below -----------------------So far so good!This is just over a 500 page book.I'm about 50 pages in, which is where the book talks about 'optionals' .I had muddled with Swift before, but didn't know what optionals were, and never really understood when I needed or didn't need to 'unwrap' them. Honestly, I didn't even know what they were called. I was really excited when I got to chapter 4 and realized it was explaining what all that stuff was about. So far it looks to be a great book!

The mother can rescue her children only by guessing which child is the fish, the roast rib, the bread, etc., a trick she neatly performs by matching each kind of food with the gift that each child had requested (Monday asked for butter, so Monday is the bread, etc.). This story, deep and rich with folk wisdom, is stunningly illustrated with Don Wood's luminous paintings. He shows the countryside as a true fairy tale settingthe half-timbered village, thatched roof cottages, haymakers in the field, and the witch's hut in dark, dank woods. With variety of color and line he enhances every nuance of the text, from the individuality of the children and the stalwart mother to the unrelenting evil of the witch. A tour de force in every way. This is one of my favorite books. It is about a witch who turns a mother's children into food while they are out. The mother must know what child is what food in order to turn them back. It's not scary....more magical. Audrey Wood is such a wonderful writer. Don Wood writes similar books. They are so vidid that they almost look real. I loved this book and it will be a treasure to save forever. My children now in their 30's are reading it to their young children. It does not have to be a Halloween book. I would suggest 3 years and up.

Okay- so I was nervous about buying this book for my 3 year old because of the reviews that said the book is scary. It is not. Lol not in my opinion and not in my toddlers opinion either. This book is a fairy tale, super fun, sort of dark, easy and fun to read (and my son loves my heckedy peg voice) and it has amazing illustrations. Very beautiful. My son frequently walks around the house now saying "come on sweet chickens!" Haha which is a phrase heckedy peg says. After Christmas we read this every night for at least a month. Great book! Such a relief from the old happy go lucky standard toddler rhyming books. Blah I get tired of those- but this I could read over and over. I was so happy my son loves it, and I really don't think it's as "dark" as everyone makes it out to be- great buy!

AMAZING book! I only remember a handful of books from my childhood and this is one of them. The children are named after the days of the week (kids get practice hearing them, older children can predict what the rest of the children are named). Spoiler alert- the witch turns them into different foods and the mom has to correctlyguess which one is each child. Easy to make interactive with a child and have them help guess which food is which child.The illustrations are so beautiful and moving! Each one is a work of art. You can read it multiple times and still discover new details in the artwork.A few people said their book arrived damaged. Mine arrived in perfect condition. No issues for me!Love it!

This was one of my favorite books when I was a very young girl, to this day it is still one of my favorites. I bought this so I could pass it on to my kids. I adore the determination of a mothers love to get her kids back from the wicked witch. The paintings in this book was one of the main reasons why I have an extreme love for oil based paintings. I also bought the book "King Bidgood's in the Bathtub" the same time and it is just as amazing as Heckedy Peg. I just wish I could of bought Heckedy Peg in Hardcopy as I did with "King Bidgood's in the Bathtub." I bought the book in paperback and sadly it looked used and not brand new. I had to take a star off because of that but other than that the book itself is just wonderful.

I loved this book as a child and once i had my own - it was a must purchase. I realized that once I ordered, I still had my copy but I'm grateful to have two copies. The story is about love of a mother and knowing her children. It's fun and not scary and I just love it. It's a classic in my home.

Loved this book as a child, bought it here to share with my 6 year old son and his entire kindergarten class. He (and they) were just as enchanted as I remember being, and afterward, all enjoyed imitating Heckedy Peg's voice and hobbling around on their "peg" legs.

The story is great, but my copy is falling apart at the seams, has rips, places are taped, and there is writing throughout. How they thought this was in sellable condition, I will never know. Love the story, but my copy is a joke.

This book was purchased for a grandchild and was a book I had purchased and read to my children when they were young. I bought the book origionally for the beautiful illustrations; but it is also a very good fairy tale. The mother in the story knows and loves her children and is able at the end of the story to turn everything about because she knows them so well. I home school a 5th-grader. I bought this book to help flesh-out the history lessons on China in The Mystery of History curriculum. I was pleased with the book overall. The reading level is not terribly difficult and there is a good balance of pictures and text. My daughter found it interesting.

This is a good overview of ancient China. The accompanying photos and graphics are excellent. They also use both pin yin and phonetics to help you pronounce Chinese words. Wish it had gone a bit deeper into the various areas the book covers. We used it in our homeschool and were able to get a number of useful facts from it.

I had already researched the book and knew which one I wanted to buy but was a little concerned as to the possible delivery delays to Australia. Not only did the book arrive exactly as described and very well packaged... the delivery was very fast and it arrived within the timeframe quoted by Amazon. It is an excellent resource for anyone travelling to Sumatra. Most books available also cover Indonesia but this book concentrates wholely and solely on Sumatra. I was unable to purchase this book in Australia and Amazon really saved the day!
