This gives great advice on bed sharing. I was already practicing that and agree with the book that bed sharing and breastfeeding lying down are the best way to get night time sleep with a baby. But I bought this book hoping for some practical advice on how to gently transition to independent naps for older babies and there is no advice here on independent napping. Their napping suggestions are to either wear the baby or nap with them. This is what I do now but it isn't going to be practical as my baby gets older, because he will get too big to be worn for every nap and because I have to go back to work eventually. Wish llli would offer some advice to the many women who want to parent gently but also have to work.

I bought this book based on a recommendation from a pregnancy podcast I listen to. I could barely get through it without being completely frustrated with the lack of content depth and ideas. While there are a few good nuggets in here for sleep strategies sprinkled throughout, I'll sum up the entire book for you.-Reasons why the recommendations against bedsharing are incorrect-How you will never ever sleep again if you plan to breastfeed unless you share a bed and ZERO other ideas or tactics other than bedsharing or a sidecar-How sleep training will traumatize and ruin your child forever-Tons of anecdotal adviceI hope this has saved you some money. Now you only need to buy the book if you plan to bed share and need validation for your decision.

I heard about this book at a breastfeeding support group. A few of us new moms had talked about how we've accidentally fallen asleep in recliners while nursing. The more experienced breastfeeding moms started talking about how they nurse in bed and brought up this book. I decided to buy it and couldn't be happier with the purchase and the way it's changed my nights and days. The book discussed faults in the research arguing against bed sharing, the realities of SIDS and suffocation risks, ways to minimize suffocation, and an overview of which babies are most vulnerable to SIDS.This book calmed my nerves in relation to SIDS and gave me the information I needed to make my bed safe for my daughter, as well as plenty of information on how to transition her out of it when she's older. She and I have never slept better and waking to each other's smiling faces starts every day off right for us.Every breastfeeding mother can benefit from the information in this book. Even the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends babies be brought into bed if there is a significant risk that you'll fall asleep. Given how tired that rush of oxytocin can make a nursing mother, it is a good idea to go ahead and babyproof your bed even if you're not planning on bed sharing beyond feeding.If you're thinking about getting this book, go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Trust your instincts. Love your baby. Do what feels right! Wish I had found this book before becoming a mom. It turns out I was doing most of the things this book recommends but I was living with guilt and uncertainty because of all the fear mongering about bedsharing. We mothers know what's right for our babies. Sweet sleep empowers you to trust your gut over the sleep "experts" and mother confidently!

This book gave me the confidence to occasionally bring my newborn into our bed for naps or on fussy nights. It's a counterbalance to all the anti-co-sleep messages that come with fear mongering around SIDS. On the other hand, I found this book extreme in it's pro-bed-sharing stance. I may be into breastfeeding and babywearing, but giving up my bed in favor of a series of mattresses on the floor (one of the book's suggestions) or sleeping apart from your partner for the long haul doesn't feel like a reasonable path for me. If it's something you are open too, get this book, it will help you. If you are more of a middle-of-the-road mom, take this book with a grain of salt. I had to keep reminding myself not to be ashamed of my more mainstream sleep choices when reading this. It has some good suggestions for "nudging" rather than sleep training, but a lot of it was based on bed sharing and thus didn't give too many sleep strategies that would work for this breastfeeding family.

My older son was a horrible sleeper, making his first year very difficult for all of us. So with my second son I thought I would get this book in hopes of being armed with better strategies. My local LLL recommends it all the time.I was disappointed to read it and learn that the entire book basically amounts to: bed share. I feel like the authors don't address my issue with bed sharing (that it's just not a comfortable way for me to sleep and I'm too light a sleeper). And I feel that they dismiss other concerns moms might have with "even if it makes you uncomfortable, force yourself to try it anyway." They also seem to make you feel like you are denying your child comfort and love if you don't want to bed share.I do think with so many sleep "solutions" out there, of course there is a place for this book. Bed sharing is indeed one path toward getting more sleep. But if you are already sure it's not for you, this book won't be very useful.

This subject does not get enough "good" press these days. Well, this book has taken care of that. A new parent need look no further to find the answer, plus research, to any question they may have. I'm so happy that La Leche League put this book together and published it. Many parents will be saved from anxiety and wrong-headed opinions to questions on sleeping and breastfeeding.

I was against co-sleeping until I had a baby and breastfed. This book helped me have a piece of mind there there is a safe way to co-sleep. Plus I feel like my baby gets so much more sleep at night in between feeds as do I because I’m right next to her when she stirs awake and is hungry.

I've been in the investment profession for 5 years now and am a CFA charterholder. I can assure anyone considering this book, it is a must for your collection. Even the best practitioners need refreshing and this book is short and to the point in a variety of Fixed Income analysis concepts. One of my favorite reference materials that exist.

I just started reading this book as a review of some things and so far I just want to emphasize that I am very happy with the purchase. The use of actual Bloomberg screens has reminded of screens that I don't use too often anymore. While I have found the book, so far, to be very good, there are some issues with some examples given in the book. E.g., in Chapter 5, the author references Exhibit 5.11 to help explain some basic spread measures (nominal and Z-spread); only problem is that the security used in the exhibit differs from what the author references in the text. The information in the text is still helpful but referncing the reader to an incorrect exhibit is somewhat confusing.

Having read so many books on the Kennedys--including Ted Kennedy's memoir True Compass: A Memoir and Rose Kennedy's Times to Remember--I wasn't sure what to expect from Jean Kennedy Smith (former ambassador to Ireland), the youngest Kennedy daughter--and the only daughter to write a memoir.It wasn't exactly what I had hoped for, but I wasn't really disappointed either. Jean Kennedy's memoir is obviously heavily influenced by the family legacy--the knowledge that she is the surviving child of Rose and Joseph Kennedy, whose three sons--and whose family itself--mean so much to so many Americans. With that responsibility in mind, she shares cozy memories, warm and positive ones, of growing up in that family.Modestly, Jean's memories in this book are all shared with a brother or sister or her parents--except when she goes away to college and her roommate (soon to become her close friend) is Ethel Skakel, who will soon fall in love with and marry Jean's older brother Bobby. Other than that, and meeting her own husband (who also became an important help to her brothers), Jean keeps the family front and center in her memoir--and, of course, she's right, that's exactly who we want to hear about. It's a slim book--more about Kennedys growing up than the political years and decisions--and you won't find any scandals--but there's a quiet charm of days gone by, when even adults played touch football on the lawn near the ocean and evening entertainment was family word games, listening to a radio program, or --for the Kennedy children-- the treat of having their father (at one time a movie producer who helped start RKO studios) bring home a new movie to show to the family and friends in the private screening room at Hyannis Port.She mentions current events sparsely as needed--the family life in London before the war, when Joe was U.S. ambassador there (the first Catholic ambassador to Protestant England). Historical events are touched on lightly and infrequently; this is a personal book, not a history lesson.Unlike her brother Ted, Jean doesn't write about the tough school years at a variety of boarding schools for the boys and Catholic school for the girls. Instead, she describes the (possibly over-idealized) summers together on the Cape. Unlike her mother, she doesn't talk about the family struggles of past generations, or say much about the business of Joe or the frequent long travels of Rose. Biographers pointed out that Joe made many decisions for the boys and Rose was closer in many ways with the girls, and that comes through here, too, although Joe still seems the warmer and more affectionate parent. Rose, shows herself as disciplined, a natural (and ambitious) teacher and a mother who wanted her children to use the summer vacations to develop skills in everything from swimming to dancing to tennis to typing--punctuated with a daily hour for reading (Jack loved this; some of the others found it an unwelcome restriction). Both parents were highly aspirational, instilling in their children the importance of family, of learning, of accomplishing important things in life and in not taking their comforts and good fortune for granted.Rose's memoir will show you a little more the downside--she's honest about hitting the children (Eunice calls it "beating" them) with coat hangers--and her guilt about frequent trips away from home, with Joe taking over many duties, along with the nurses. In her own memoir, Rose and Joe seem very strict, very demanding--high standards and demands mixed with pride and indulgence for their nine children with their high spirits, noise and fun--being sure to keep them unspoiled and engaged in meaningful activities.Jean loves her parents and her brothers and sisters and has nothing bad to say about any of them. She does, briefly, mention the sad times--her oldest brother's death in the war, her eldest sister's botched lobotomy that left her severely mentally and physically impaired, another sister's fatal plane crash when she was barely 28 years old. Then, of course, she mentions the public service of her three brothers and -- briefly, and without much detail, the assassinations of Jack and Bobby. There's not much here about her own children--she knows we want to hear about Jack and Bobby and Teddy and the fun growing up and how great they were as adults and how she loved and idolized them just like so many of us do still--only Jean was there.It's a light book, a fast read, with a photo on almost every open double-page, not on special photo paper so its not very well detailed, but they're great to see, and makes it a bit like a scrapbook feeling. Where else will you read about--and see--the Halloween costumes Jackie designed for her and Jean while first lady--so that they could go trick or treating in cognito with their children? Jean relied a lot on her own journals for the stories she shares. If you are a fan of the Kennedy's, her book is not going to tell you anything shocking or (if you've read a lot) much that's new, but it's Jack and Bobby and Teddy's sister--she's the last of their generation, and she wants to tell us about what it was like back then. Seriously, who could resist grabbing a cup of tea and enjoying her memories? , .

An engaging, well written read about an American royal family, Jean Kennedy Smith has invited us in to share the wonderfulmemories of their childhood and beyond. Their lives were molded by wise and focused parents whose high standards instilled in themqualities of intelligence, curiosity, spiritualism, family loyalty and a sense of purpose. I did not want to put her book down as my eyes closed at night.

This book tells Jean Kennedy's love for her brothers and sisters. Because the family is so big she could not go into great detail. She does not write about any of the scandals in the family but did write very briefly about John, Joe, kick, and Bobby's deaths, and the tragedy of Rosemary's lobotomy. Light reading.

Great simple read on the historic Kennedy family. Jean gives us an insight into life in the Kennedy household with family pictures never seen before. Jean writes this as a Kennedy member, not author and I deeply enjoyed her bias as a Kennedy member. Jean, I am a biased lover of the Kennedy family and all things Kennedy. At this point I have read everything published. I enjoyed this "fly on the wall" of the Kennedy home perspective. I will never lose my intense love of everything Kennedy.

Interesting, touching autobiography of one of the younger Kennedy children that taught me a number of things I didn't know about the family. Written from a fairly protective family viewpoint, which is understandable and expected. The love of her family is felt throughout the book. I ended up buying a copy to send to my mom, because she was interested in some of the things I mentioned that she had not known as well. Want to read more about the other siblings. I have not read many books about the Kennedys, and none about their growing - up years. This was a very interesting look at their lives as children, and the things their parents considered important in raising them. Children are not raised this way any longer, and it's very telling. This book explains how one family came to be so important to our nation, and gives direction on leading children into lives of faith and service.

Not a good read at all! I am a Kennedy follower andthis book is way "too flowerly". So many facts are leftout.Do not recommend.

Interesting account about the Kennedy family. A lot of tragedy in this family. This story was written by the youngest daughter, so she wasn't in the picture for many years. This isn't the normal 11 member family because they had the money to hire household help. I will say the parents taught their children to have integrity and patriotism.

About the Author

Tau Malachi's (Malachi eben Ha-Elijah's) spiritual journey began when he met the acquaintance of a Tau of the Sophian Tradition of Gnostic Christianity, Tau Elijah ben Miriam. He received the oral tradition of Sophian Gnosticism from Tau Elijah, and has been a student and practitioner of Gnostic Christianity for over thirty-five years. In 1983 he founded Sophia Fellowship as an expression of the tradition, and has been teaching and initiating others into Christian Gnosticism, Rosicrucian Philosophy and Christian Kabbalah since that time. He is an initiate of Ordo Sanctus Gnosis and serves as an Elder and Tau within the Sophian lineage. Tau Malachi is also a Chevalier (a dubbed Knight) in the International Order of Chivalric Companions, a Martinist, and is an ordained and consecrated Independent Bishop. He is co-founder of The Gnostic Apostolic Church of Sophia and is among the leading exponents of Christian Gnosticism and Kabbalah in our times. Along with his exploration of the Western Mystery Tradition, he has studied extensively in several Eastern Traditions, such as Vajrayana Buddhism and Vedanta, and he also studied within a Middle Eastern Tradition of Sufism, as well as becoming involved in Native American Shamanism. As the book expresses, this tradition of the Gnostic order of St. Mary Magdalene is an oral tradition, just like the Catholic Church or the outer and un-spiritual church as they call it, handed down it's beliefs and teachings orally, same with this one. It claims to have originated directly from the secret teachings of Jesus or Yeshua as they call him by his Aramaic name and that of St. Mary Magdalene. As a Catholic myself I will admit there are some really abstract ideas that will make you raise your eyebrow and say to yourself "what the heck did I just read?" However, I'm not going to bash Gnosticism here, I am fascinated by it's teachings and it's writings, and it really makes me wonder sometimes, "how much do we really know in the end?" We only know what very little the bible actually tells us of things, so you can only sit back and read this book with awe and fascination as I do. There are various tales and legends about St. Mary Magdalene in this book, tells the story of her early life before meeting Yeshua (Jesus) and her many sayings and teachings scripture versus in her Gospel. I love these types of books, regardless if the Church calls these teachings heresy, I still read these books with great fascination and awe, sometimes they will say things that will just seem to hit the mark in your heart that will leave you saying to yourself "I know this isn't what the Church teaches, but for some reason, I feel that this resonates with my heart." If you're looking for something unique and refreshing you cannot go wrong with this book!!

The book is a fairly decent compilation of Gnostic themed stories and legends about Mary Magdalene, as well as some meditation exercises. I could really relate to Tau Malachi's experience, having seen the Lady in Red as a teenager and I am now 64..Tau writes an experience about her as having been raped, kidnapped and forced into prostitution in Babylon, which happens to millions of women and children, she used her experiences and position to obtain wealth(she dressed, wore jewelry, wore perfumes and oils, she became the favorite of the Elite) went back to her home and met Jesus on the way and he worked with her to return her soul to the way she was before her terrible experience, I wondered why she was 27 when they married but, this explains it..I have also read other written material that brought out her sordid experiences but, she used them to walk beside Jesus with more knowledge of the world then any other descipleAlso this explains why she had so much Power over women because she could teach them to expand themselves to being able to walk above their lowered positions, can you imagine what she learned as a prostitue to teach other women.And yes, the other Apostles did not accept her except, Thomas, Bartholomew, and PhillipAll reference to her and writings by these Apostles were omitted from the bibleI feel she earned her right to walk above the others at the side of Jesus , and possibly taught Jesus a few things

I've read a lot on Magdalene, but this book goes where I hoped all the others would. Finally, a vision of Magdalene that presents her as co-equal in every way to Jesus! The stories are breathtaking, the 250 sayings are profound and take the gospels to a whole new level. It's about time we started re-thinking our spirituality through the lens of our twentieth century minds!This book not only re-envisions Jesus' message, it re-envisions our current world paradigms and asks us some serious questions about where we are going to go next with our spirituality. I think it has become crystal clear to most of us that going back into the patriarchal mindset isn't the right answer, nor is going forward by cutting our roots out from under us. This book re-envisions by being well-rooted in the tradition of Jesus and his message, but at the same time re-envisions and calls us to question our current paradygms. This book is what I was waiting for.

My five year old enjoys this book and has asked for it to be re-read many times. The illustration and explanation of how egg is formed and 'travels' is difficult to follow and it seems like there is a gap in the explanation of process. Also, the illustration of this process appears sideways which is equally hard to decipher and explain. A 3.5 is my actual rating.

Bought this for my granddaughter as she has chickens. I figured this would help her understand where chicks come from. I would recommend this book for younger children to learn where chicks come from.

Very cute and educational book. This book will be read through many times, pictures are great as well as the information.

I used Gail's books in my classroom. The students enjoy the beautiful colors and the useful information. She has a wide variety of topics for kids.

The book was colorful, well illustrated and extremely informative. It needed a little more excitement in the storyline to create interest however. But overall, it is a well done book.
