A quick bit of background...I am a long time space exploration aficionado, have many books mostly to do with manned spaceflight in the 1960's. I have several other recent comparable large hard cover books featuring the manned space program including Moonshots, Moonfire, Full Moon and Apollo VII-XVII.The book....Starting with how this book is packaged - it literally comes (from Amazon anyway) triple boxed. You open the Amazon book, there's a slightly smaller book that is the shipping box for the book. You open that box, the book is inside a shrink-wrapped illustrated carrying case style box complete with handle typical for the largest, most lavish Taschen books. Carefully open the carrying case and this huge 15lb book inside is also shrink-wrapped. Everything graphically about this book is over-the-top. The dust cover and paper stock is thick semi-gloss paper, almost card stock. The dust cover and the chapter break photos have silver ink printing to accentuate the 4 color images. The actual book cover is an embossed photo of Buzz Aldrin's boot print on the lunar surface. The text is fairly large and easy to read. Binding, printing and overall quality of the photos and other images included is outstanding. Perhaps fortunately due to practicality issues, there's no fold-out spreads. This is *not* a book you can cradle in your lap and read, it's just too big and heavy.From a content standpoint, this book gives a very broad overview of American space program in a mostly chronological way. Informatively, this is the kind of book tailored more towards the casual space exploration fan. For the die-hard space enthusiast, almost all the photographs are fairly common, including iconic photos such as Ed White's spacewalk to the Apollo 11 moonwalk images to classic shuttle/spacewalk, ISS and of course, beautiful Hubble deep space photographs. There's also a few illustrations of hardware, missions, etc. The big draw here is the sheer size (most are full page images) and quality of the images included. IMO, I think content-wise, for so-called coffee table sized photo books, Moonshots and (the original full size HC) Full Moon books are a bit better and go a little more in depth but that is in large part because those book focus on the Apollo program itself. But big as those books are, they are physically dwarfed by "The NASA Archives."One thing I would caution potential buyers - be very careful when putting the book back in it's case and closing the top. It's very easy to catch the edge of and accidentally damaging the top of the dust cover.

Was really thrilled to find this book was double boxed and came in a protective sleeve, arrived in perfect condition. The book itself is massive and is of quality construction. All the photographs are incredible. Can’t wait to sit down and read every page.

“The NASA Archive” is an extraordinary object---I almost hesitate saying “book.” A monument to NASA (literally and figuratively: it weighs nearly 15 pounds; fortunately, it comes in a carrying case equipped with a handle) celebrating the agency’s sixtieth year of existence and the fiftieth anniversary of its greatest achievement---the landing of human on the moon---”The NASA Archive” is eminently worthy of its subject.In spite of what its title implies, the book goes beyond NASA in telling its story in words and pictures. It gets a running start by backing up decades before the agency’s existence and begins with a tip of the hat to Jules Verne and the text of an article from a 1929 issue of the science fiction magazine, “Science Wonder Stories.” There are five spectacular pages of artwork by Chesley Bonestell and Rolf Klep from the seminal “Collier’s” magazine spaceflight series of the mid-fifties. We have the dialog between Chuck Yeager and Muroc Tower during his epochal faster-than-sound flight. Likewise, the images draw from many sources other than NASA itself, thereby providing a much more complete and well-rounded impression not only of the history of NASA but of its effects on both technology and culture. I was pleased to see that the author drew upon the resources of the NASA Fine Arts Program for some of the imagery for the book, which add a specially emotional and human touch to the experience.All of the photos and art in the book, I might add, are reproduced with a definition that is eye-dazzling in its detail and brilliance.The text is primarily by editor Piers Bizony---who created the no less spectacular ode to “2001: A Space Odyssey---with essays by Dr. Roger Launius, who had been chief historian at NASA for more than a decade, and Andrew Chaikin, author of the recent history of the Apollo lunar landing program, “A Man On the Moon,” and all did the splendid job one would have expected from these authors.I cannot recommend this book more highly. Great Information and pictures for a young girl interested in this kind of thing

I really enjoy using this book, and have gotten a lot out of it. I know that some are going to be turned off that this book has no photographs, instead relying on very basic illustrations. However, that is precisely why I think this book is such a marvel. I like styling my hair and changing my style, but with time, I realized that there are only a certain amount of ways to do your hair. Crafty Girl - Hair, has illustrations of the classic hair styles and directions on achieving them. She also addresses face shape and hair types. I found it refreshing to see the "basic style" laid out, without the distraction of a gorgeous model whose face or makeup distracts from the actual style.For the crafty in all of us, she includes several recipes for hair masks, homemade shampoos and conditioners, and the like. She also has ideas for hair accessories, although they are often quite basic.If you are someone who needs color photos, this book is not for you. However, if you can imagine the hairstyles from the sketches, and enjoy making hair concoctions, I think you'd really get a lot from this book.

I should have realized that when the author used the word "girl" she meant child, rather than a term for an energetic, youthful woman.This book is for pre-teen, and young teen girls.I was VERY disappointed with the content in this book.First off, there are only 5 or so hairstyles covered in this book. Easy hairstyles that for even the hair-retarded, like myself, could figure out eventually.Second, the "crafts" for hair are things that are obvious, like gluing a rhinestone on a bobby pin. -WOW! I NEVER thought of THAT!!!--- I was looking for a book that had great hair styles -- and gave step by step instructions (maps, diagrams, etc) on how to accomplish them, but that is nowhere to be found in this book.If you are over the age of 12, and are looking to do more than a "prom" look, temporary "dreadlocks", and other silly, non-work friendly hairstyles, then look elsewhere.I would give this to my nieces, and think I probably will.Utterly useless book for people living in the adult real world.

This book is ok. It didn't have that many hair styles. It would have been better if it had more picures. Its hard to do somthing without seeing what its supposed to look like. I'd recomend getting it from the library because it isn't that great.

I don't typically review books, but I wanted to review this book because I almost didn't read the book because of some of the reviews which criticize the author for not honestly addressing criticisms of Chogyam Trungpa. After reading the book, I believe those reviews miss the bigger learning. While Jack Kornfield only addresses some of Trungpa's specific short-comings in passing, I believe more importantly, he spends considerable efforts to convey the fact that many of the revered Buddhist spiritual leaders are far from perfect and are very human. As the title of Chapter 21 says "Even the Best Meditators Have Old Wounds to Heal."Finally, if you do buy this book, I would mention that I thought that the book starts a little slow, but gains momentum as you read. In particular, I really enjoyed Part Four: Practicing the Dharma in the West, where Jack Kornfield addresses some topics typically ignored or only addressed in passing in other Buddhist literature such as sexual practices, drug use, and achieving enlightenment versus having enlightened moments.

Have read this book three times, and bought several copies for others. It is one of the best books on Buddhism I have come across.

I enjoyed most of the book except for the rather blatant marketing of his own retreats, books, methods, etc. I recommend it to anyone who would like a well-written and immediately applicable overview of Buddhism today, however be prepared for some long commercial breaks...

I ordered this book via my Kindle. The Mindful Meditation group is using it for our weekly discussions. I have never highlighted so much of a book before this one. Jack Kornfield has really hit a homerun with this book. It really explains the dharma so well and puts it into Western terms. Another thank you to Jack for his amazing understanding of the Buddhist way.

Enjoyable reading the book. I am not finished reading it as there is much to be absorbed and integrated into one's lifestyle. As I read it, I can envision what Jack Kornfield is saying and I begin to think of my own life and what I have achieved. It is not a book that you can breeze through. There is much to absorb.

Great, I love all his books. This one was very clearly organized and he touches on all manner of topics ranging from meditation, to spirtuality and sex.

Great book. Lots of duplicate material from Jack's other books. Some of it rewritten and said in a new way. Interesting add for Spiritual Masters book he wrote, I am looking forward to reading that too.

I enjoyed this book, as it provided some interesting background on The author's experiences with Buddhism and how it came to the West, however for me Jack's best will always be A Path with Heart, perhaps because it was the first book I read as I began to explore Buddhism.

Any field in the Social Sciences, let alone in Human Services and Psychology are tough, but I do highly recommend this textbook to any students or novice looking into grasping a better understanding of mental health and those individuals who are suffering from it. This book will be a reference text for me, hands down.

I found this book quite useful for learning about the processes involved in rehabilitation of various mental illnesses. I think it did a great job of explaining how symptoms of a particular psychiatric condition could effect an individual's ability to work and his/her overall quality of life. It was easy to navigate through the index and find the information I was looking for when working on papers for my class. The language is clear and easy to understand, no excess vocabulary or confusing sentences that you can find in some other textbooks. The book came in good condition.

Bought this textbook for an addicitons class. It was an interesting and educational read!

This book was clearly written by geniuses. The only thing better than owning a copy of this textbook would be taking a course with one of the authors...Edit: Dream come true.
