I read this after reading another book on preaching by Andy Stanley. What I loved about this book is that it offered great insights regarding the theory of communication. Speaking to adults is much different than speaking to youth and this book gave me good, practical insights into how to improve. Thank you Doug and Duffy, we own you one!

Having to get up in front of youth every week can be intimidating but it can also be an exhilarating challenge! Doug and Duffy have come alongside and mentored me through this book. What great help they have been in preparing and delivering messages. This book is seeping with practical help through and through. Much needed and much blessed by this book.

Great for those who are "speakers" and have expended prep time. Not as practical as I;d hoped for those who teach on a daily basis. It does have good insight into maiking sure we are speaking into the hears and lives of teenagers by making sure we understand their world and how to keep teaching relevant through stories. Preparation is important but I was looking more for something more practical on getting into the heart. I thought it focused too much on preparation - over days and weeks - when in reality, most youth workers, teachers and parents don't have the luxury of spending days or weeks preparing, and are called on to teach daily Good tips though of how to be on the lookout for ideas and stories that can be used later.

I have read many books on speaking to teenagers. Many books on how to be a better communicator. I have even read purpose driven youth ministry too. It wasn't until I read this book that I turned the corner. This book not only tells you what you should do, it gives examples. So many times we are told to do something a certain way, but then are not given any examples or how to guides to go along with that knowledge. THIS has it! I have been humbled by what I am not good at and what I need to improve, but for the first time I feel confident. I feel like I have a solid model to follow that will give me success. If you struggle with making a teaching schedule, finding creative ways to teach the Bible, need help constructing your messages so that you are well prepared to speak......this is the book for you. Best book I have ever read, hands down.

Even though the title is 'Speaking to Teenagers'... this is essentially a book on communicating effectively. Brilliantly written and structured. Highly recommended for anyone in the field of communications, advertising and marketing with the desire for people 'to get the message that they want them to get'.

I really liked the book. BUT if you’re planning on doing this with the study guide, you NEED the dvd. The book & the study guide do not go together. So I was very disappointed with that part. The study guide is useless without the dvd.

I have recommended the book and study guide to so many people. I didn't really find the DVD added anything if you had already read the book or were in the process of reading the book. The questions in the study guide helped me to dig a little deeper. While I would say the DVD is not necessary if you are studying on your own it may be good for a group but the studyguide is a great tool either way.

I first found out about this study by Shauna Niequist by watching it on You Tube. I next bought the book, and finally this study guide. I am VERY pleased with its layout, and the subject matter. I am a first born, perfectionist, and am always more focused on the end goal than the process. This study teaches me to slow down, reflect and enjoy the journey of life! Thank you Amazon!

This book came to me in a time when I desperately needed it. The messages really resonated for me and I have about 3/4 of the book highlighted. The author shares experiences and the messages in a way that really resonates and helps sink in. I read this every time I need to recalibrate my work/life balance and would recommend it to anyone looking to do the same in their life.

This study was perfect for my busy season of life---early mom years. I got still, removed distractions, prioritized life, and reduced major stress. I'm now enjoying my mom years even more and embracing this season!

This is wonderful study that shows us how we need to be present in the moment and not hung up on having everything we do be perfect. In order to enjoy our life we must learn when to say no and give ourselves time to enjoy our home, friends and family. In the age of "electronics and social media" we need to know when to disconnect and live in the present.

This is a wonderful study book and is filled with heartfelt messages that are very relatable. I purchased the book as well and Shauna Niequist speaks from the heart and although I feel it's geared more for women, I believe many men could relate to it as well.

What a wonderful book!! This is a great story to read to your kids or a story to team read with those a bit older. The illustrator should be put up for an award, in my opinion This is a story about when the Easter Bunny hurt his paw the day before he was suppose to hop down the bunny trail for Easter. It also shows what happens when you have true friends and when you put your best skills to work. I found this colorful book on a website with free books for an honest review.

I read the book to my nephew Aiden tonight .we really liked it very much. He was amazed by the teamwork.

My family just got back from South Dakota, where we used this book. I can't begin to tell you how far this book falls short. Want info. on hiking the Badlands? Forget it. Want to know about activities and food in Rapid City? You're pretty much out of luck.The book's organization is atrocious. Restaurants in one place, lodging in another, attractions in another. So when you pull into a place, you have to flip all over the book just to figure things out.Basics are missing. For example, say you want to know the best things to do in the Black Hills--it's very difficult to excavate from this book. Instead you learn about real estate, shopping, and many unneeded details. Hikes in the Black Hills? Forget it? How to tackle Wind Cave National Park? Little help.After travelling around the world with opinionated and helpful Lonely Planet guides, I am sorely disappointed with this book. This book is definately better than nothing, but look elsewhere for help with your trip to beautiful South Dakota.

This book was absolutely amazing! Everything we wanted to do and everything we didn't know we wanted to do was EASY TO FIND. I spent a bit of time marking the attractions we wanted to see and the routes we wanted to take and NOT ONCE did we get lost. I recommend the trip. However, I recommend it more with this book as a travel companion. For our next trip we plan on touring the South East, don't think I haven't looked to the Insiders' Guide books to help. Have a great time!

I'm usually a science fiction fan, so it doesn't take much to draw me in beyond a cool-seeming premise; it DOES take a lot to keep me from putting the book back down, though. 10,000 Bones provides everything I wanted in a book like this. It's a quick read, with a vivid, deep, well-developed world even in spite of its somewhat short length. The characters are compelling; no one feels like set-dressing here. And, again, that premise--part of what turns me off of some fantastical novels is the lack of any real science behind the idea, and Ollinger has supplied the reader with enough explanation to have the calcium-based economy (and its black market) make sense, without at any time getting bogged down or dry. So if a fast-paced, action-packed novel plotted around an unusual currency on a human-colonized exoplanet with an engaging collection of diverse characters appeals to you, BUY THIS BOOK. You won't regret it.

I am not normally accustomed to my science fiction being "fast", even if the story is short. 10,000 Bones is a brisk read that accelerates throughout, with mystery punctuated by the occasional well-written combat scene. Joe Ollinger's background as a screenwriter shines through here, as it is paced much like a feature film (this may be a problem for some readers but not for me). Dialogue is crisp and to-the-point, as is the protagonist in this noir story. Taryn Dare is pitch-perfect as a protagonist, 75% stoic and 25% brooding. There are only a few major additional characters in the story and they serve as excellent counterparts to flesh out the dynamics of the Collections Agency tasked with retrieving the planet's contraband "currency", as well as the interplanetary business interests that undergird the economic system in Brink.Ollinger paints a fascinating portrait of one human outpost in a larger galaxy. Other planets with other problems are often mentioned but never visited. This is not an issue by itself but it makes me want to see the way the rest of this universe plays out. As all good science fiction does, much of the dynamics of the universe play out with a wink and a nod to our political and resource issues here on Earth. The noir/sci-fi/suspense dynamic is reminiscent in particular of the first season of the Expanse.Captivating first novel from a new author. Looking forward to see more of his work, whether in the 10,000 Bones universe or a new one.

This was a fast paced, well written novel that feels like it's inevitably going to wind up as some lucky actress's staring vehicle. There was enough going on with the conspiracy and mystery that you'll have fun putting the pieces together.But while there's a lot of great action, what I really liked was the thought and energy put into the world building. While I was initially a bit skeptical about "calcium as currency," Olinger makes the premise believable and as a result the planet of Brink, and Taryn, the protagonist, exist in a universe that not only feels real but, in a way, almost inevitable (that is, if mankind ever gets around to developing faster than light travel).

I'm not usually a huge fan of straight sci-fi, but a friend suggested this book and I was pleasantly surprised. The premise is intriguing—a planet whose currency is calcium. I had a feeling where the dark side of that could go...I found the main character Taryn super relatable—I've certainly been stuck in a place (crappy hometown) and willing to take any job to leave. And she's a badass.The plot is filled with twists and kept me in suspense throughout. And it addresses some bigger, darker themes that echo currents in our times... Highly recommend!

10,000 bones is an action-packed thriller that is hard to put down once you start. It's thoughtful, well-written, and keeps you guessing until the very end. I loved the details of the planet Brink, the people, and the future. A great Sci-fi read.

You don't have to be an econ nerd to enjoy this book, but I am, and I did. The bones-as-currency angle is cool as hell, well played, the action is tight, and there are more than enough thickets of colorful prose to tickle the word nerd's fancy as well. Cheers.

I recommend the book 10,000 Bones. It is an action-packed futuristic sci-fi thriller, fun to read and easy to imagine as a screen play for an adventure movie. The protagonist is a strong, complex woman. Readers will enjoy this book.

The CD is good and who doesn't love Jim Rohn but I was a little surprised to see the how it arrived. It's just in a paper envelope like something out of a kit or something. I had to look twice to make sure it was not a copy. :) Other then that all good for the price.

I was actually excepting something different. But the speech is very good from Jim Rohn. But I also like Jim Rohn but its still not what it was going to be.

This CD is an excellent source for being introduced to Jim Rohn and if listened to several times, it is one of the most encouraging resource for beginning a network marketing business. But, it does not teach skills such as the packaging claims, it only introduces the listener to the importance of acquiring the skills of recruiting; getting people to work together, how to use ingenuity (like how is that taught in one CD being listened to); strengthening communication techniques and how to inspire people.
