Full disclosure: I was a recipe tester for this book and am a longtime fan of the author and her blog. Having said that, I give this new book of hers five stars and recommend it to home cooks everywhere! It will bring you into a representative day in Paris through the medium of cooking, and it does so in the form of a beautifully photographed series of images that accompany 100 recipes. These include French classics as well as selections from the diversity of communities that enrich Paris today, which to me means there is something for everyone, and every part of your day. Please note that I'm not a professional cook, just someone who likes to fool around in the kitchen and is always learning new things. These recipes are not overly complex or fussy, but the results are impressive--so don't be intimidated if you are new to this and still developing your kitchen chops. From these recipes, I learned new techniques (new to me) and have gotten a bunch of rave reviews from all kinds of people at my table. I've also learned a thing or two about Paris, and even if you're already familiar with the city, this is the kind of book that will revive your fondest memories and maybe just make you want to revisit favorite places, and explore new ones. PS this book would make a lovely gift for your favorite cook, or your favorite someone who loves Paris!
Tasting Paris: 100 Recipes to Eat Like a Local is the kind of book that will bring Paris right into your kitchen. Smartly organized and beautifully photographed, Clotilde Dusoulier’s newest cookbook is her best yet. Clotilde’s writing style is so charming and delightful that you will be drawn into her utterly lovely world of accessible French food. She is your Parisian BFF! I’ve had the honor of testing recipes for Clotilde during the development of several cookbooks, including this newest publication. What I love most about Tasting Paris is the breadth of recipes that reflect the spirit and culture of France, and are completely accessible to those of us who are mere mortals in the kitchen. There are many favorite recipes in this book. Be sure to try Rice and Ginger soup (OMG good) when you are ailing or need some extra nurturing. The Potato Chip & Chive Omelet is an unexpected treat – so much flavor and easy breezy to make. If you want something delicately sweet, you can’t miss with the Blackberry Bostock. Be sure to make the Bistro Vinaigrette – you’ll soon call it your ‘go-to’ salad dressing. There are many more recipes I could feature, but you’ll soon discover your own favorites. I’d encourage you to add this cookbook to your collection. It is a winner!
Like all of Clotilde Dusoulier's cookery books (I now own several), this one is beautifully written and photographed with a carefully tested selection of recipes. If you are a fan of Clotilde as I am, do go to her Chocolate and Zucchini website where she posts truly interesting blogs, recipes and tidbits that are so enticing they make me want to return to Paris soon again. I highly recommend this cookery book to you!As an aside, I think that her recipe for buckwheat crepes in Tasting Paris might not be quite as authentic, as the one she has posted online. If you're interested in making these crepes, do take a look at both recipes. I favor the online one that has plain flour added along with the buckwheat flour. The traditional crepe filling of egg, ham and cheese, however, is authentic and really delicious with these crepes.I doff my hat to Clotilde for the fantastic job she's doing online and in her cookery books of bringing together an international community of people who really love France, Paris, good food and French cooking. Bravo, Clotilde!!!
Just received Ms Dusoulier's new cookbook this morning, and it is a gem! As with her previous cookbooks, this one contains tons of excellent recipes, but this one has a more traditional French approach with unique methods and ideas that only someone as talented as this author could provide. I cannot wait to dig in!!
Without a doubt, this is my favorite Cookbook (I collect cookbooks from Paris). The pictures are full page and wonderful. They show PARIS, as well as the food. That's what I love the most...the pictures of places I've been and seen. Places I can't wait to see again. The food looks delicious, although I haven't made a single thing. The book arrived a short time ago and I have gone through it, page by page, several times, just to enjoy it's beauty. I love it and recommend it to people who love to cook, as well as those who love photographs of Paris and the food for which they are famous.
I was so excited to get this book in my hands, after reading Clotilde's blogs for all this time! She did not disappoint! Tasting Paris is filled with beautiful photography drawing you in at each turn of the page! It has been a year since I was actually in Paris and yet I felt transported to the streets again....with new yet familiar sights (and almost smells!) around every corner.Of course, Clotilde's writing style feels like you are just Tasting Paris with an old friend. Her words captivate you and pull you on the next page. It's best to plan some time to spend with this book...and best to have a glass of wine close by...so you can really enjoy Tasting Paris!
This is an excellent addition to my cookbook collection. Beautifully written with lots of interesting stories about the Paris food scene. This has become my latest “bedside bookâ€. Great recipes which are inspiring me to bring a taste of Paris to my Arizona desert home. I want to make Brioche buns for Easter and chocolate bread for a family treat. Beautiful photos and nice layout.I enjoy Clotilde’s blog and am very impressed with the quality of her new book. Merci Beaucoup! I am so happy to see that writers and publishers still committed to high quality productions.
